Eva Navarrete is a Vermont University-trained End-of-Life Doula, Advance Care Planning Consultant, and Holistic Health Practitioner, dedicated to providing sacred and dignified experiences at the end of life.

Eva's Work

For the past two decades, Eva has actively participated in multiple community-based programs with the intention to enhance the quality, respect, and accessibility of end-of-life care. She works on behalf of all individuals facing complex health and social
limitations, serving as a point of contact to maximize engagement between patients, medical professionals, and the community.

Recently, Eva expanded her impact by collaborating with health and senior centers as an independent Advance Care Planning Consultant. There, she works closely with all levels of healthcare professionals to advocate and ensure patients receive comprehensive, coordinated care.

Bringing Accessible Death Care to Everyone

Eva began her healthcare career in 2001. As her professional path unfolded, she discovered a deep calling to improve end-of-life education, support, and access to care—particularly within Hispanic communities. Her passion and commitment led to an
invitation to lead the first Spanish-speaking breast cancer support group for underserved and uninsured Latinas through the Susan G. Komen Foundation in San Diego.

She contributed significantly to the development and management of innovated Bilingual Cancer Patient Navigator Program. In this capacity, Eva led a team of trained Community Health Workers (Promotoras) and volunteers, whose mission was to serve as a vital bridge between health and social services and the community. This comprehensive program positively impacted the lives of many breast cancer patients and survivors, improving access to essential services while fostering cultural understanding and personal empowerment during a time of deep vulnerability.

Over the years, Eva’s work within the Hispanic community has cultivated a profound respect for the fragility of life—and a deep recognition that death, when approached with
presence and care, can become a teacher in the art of living well.

Eva is passionate about educating the community.

As a Bilingual Health Professional, Eva is deeply committed to educating Spanish- speaking communities. She is particularly passionate about raising awareness regarding Hispanic communities' access to dignified end-of-life care and available options. To fulfill this important mission, she leads monthly bilingual Death Talks & Charlas, both in-person and virtually, as part of her Healing Circle initiative. Above all, Eva is dedicated to creating safe spaces where individuals can openly discuss end-of-of-life care options. Her goal is to normalize conversations about death by offering culturally sensitive support and providing comprehensive, accessible educational resources.

Eva's Partnerships

Since 2020, Eva has partnered with local and national organizations, including Compassion & Choices, San Diego Coalition for Compassionate Care, National PACE Association, and the Binational Health Week at the General Mexican Consulate to educate Spanish-speaking communities about their rights and options regarding their end-of-life care. Over the past four years, Eva and these organizations have hosted over 30 educational events in various San Diego and Tijuana communities.

The Dreamcatcher: A Sacred Symbol of Heritage, Protection and Cycle of Life

The dreamcatcher is a sacred instrument deeply rooted in the traditions of Native American cultures. This talisman is believed to serve as a protector, filtering the dreams and energies that surround us, acting as a guardian.

For Eva, the dreamcatcher holds profound meaning beyond its symbolic nature. It is a sacred instrument to honor her ancestors and a constant reminder of the interconnectedness of all living things. It represents the cycle of life and death—an eternal journey with no true beginning or end—a reflection of unity and continuity. This sacred talisman weaves eternal love that filters through our lives and dreams,
connecting people across time, and beyond the boundaries of both the physical and spiritual realms.

Disclaimer: Dreamcatchers are emblematic of Indigenous identity. The misuse or exploitation of this sacred design is deeply offensive to Indigenous peoples and disregards its cultural significance. The creation of dreamcatchers is a traditional practice for Native Americans and must be treated as sacred.

Philosophy

Eva is deeply committed to two fundamental causes: supporting patients in need and providing continuous education to the community. Her unique techniques enable her to adopt a holistic approach to end-of-life care, while simultaneously enhancing the quality of her patients' medical care. She believes that everyone deserves to fully understand their options and to realize they are not alone: even during their most challenging moments.
